Do You Have a Dream?

Do you have a dream? Are you longing to do a particular thing? Does your Body feel antsy with the energy to move, create, or express? Does your Soul keep whispering to you about a place you’d like to go?
These energies, dreams, and longings are not random. They are specifically meant for you. What you seek, seeks you.
Many times the whispers of your Soul and Body feel like an impossibility. Often they feel pretty far outside the box of how we see ourselves. You love musicals but you don’t dance. You are not an artist, but you keep following watercolorists on social media. Maybe you live on a postage stamp but dream of homesteading. Maybe it is something really simple—like you feel better after going to an exercise class but you are too shy to go there very often.
Whether what you are dreaming of seems “big” like writing a book, world travel, or starting a business, or “small” like trying a new recipe, going to a new coffee shop, or learning a new skill of some kind—it is no accident that you want it. The Creative Life Force surrounding us all means for you to have and do this thing. This IS part of your purpose.
Things to Know When Doing Something New
There are some things to know and steps to take when doing something new, because for most of us, doing anything new feels scary and maybe even impossible.
Things to Know
Dreams, desires, and longings, when rooted in your authenticity, are the language of the Soul and Body moving you toward the full expression of your Life. These guide you toward your purpose and what is going to feel the most fulfilling to you. (Life’s instruction booklet for you)
Your beloved nervous system feels… well, nervous about anything new, because even if the new thing is your heart’s desire, your nervous system and brain perceive anything unfamiliar as unsafe. We have to help the nervous system feel safe when stepping into new territory.
Ironically, repressing, shutting down, or ignoring what your Soul and Body are asking for also feels unsafe to the nervous system, because grief, sadness, resentment, and anger can build up over time the longer a person ignores their Soulful dream.
Steps to Take
Examine the dream, calling, or desire. We want to do our best to ensure the dreams we desire are coming from the most authentic place possible and not from what you have been conditioned to think you should want or should do.
Recognize that the brain categorizes new things as scary, so expect to feel some anxiety, nerves, and uncertainty when you decide to take action toward your dream.
Practice nervous system regulation so that you can expand your mind enough to feel safe even when things are new—rather than always feeling like you do not deserve your dream or struggling with imposter syndrome.
A Peek Inside Partnered Healing
This month we will break down these steps a bit more, but for now, I leave you with a list we at Partnered Healing are feeling the Soulful desire to do—and we feel a little afraid to do them.
Each of us feels the strong authentic desire as well as the resistance and fear. We are just like you, and we all have that voice that gives us a million little reasons not to do the thing.
Here’s what’s on our list:
Write a book
Deep dive into how spiritual and mental health impact physical health
Take an in-person exercise class
Write regular content for Substack
Go to the big wilderness (maybe Alaska?)
What Is Your Dream?
What do you feel a little bit afraid to do?
For a deeper dive into this month’s theme, please check the Events Page on our website for our monthly Partnered Healing Community Group, open to Partnered Healing clients and members. Our next one is October 16th at 11:00 and we hope to see you there!
Come workshop your dream with us! 🌿
